Abstract

Entrepreneurs play a vital role in the economic growth of any nation.Besides, they become the main supplier of goods and services to a large industry, as well as a source of job creation and innovation, and increasing people‟s income.Today, the number of Malaysian women becoming entrepreneurs is growing and it has been claimed to be an important contributor to the nation. However, in reality not much is known about the single mother entrepreneur characteristics, personal profile, behaviour, business activity, and challenges faced by them. Therefore, it is important to conduct research that focuses on single mother entrepreneurs. The main objective of this study was to fill the gap by exploring Malaysian single mother entrepreneurial personal profiles. In this study, a qualitative method based on interviews was implemented. A total of 13 single mother entrepreneur respondents was selected. The findings of this study identified, the majority of single mother entrepreneurs involved in this study had started venturing into business to ensure that the economic stability of the family is guaranteed, especially after losing their husband, retiring, or fired from work. Therefore, these single mother entrepreneurs would venture into business based on their own interests and creativity.
