Hisba Reflection in Islamic Spiritual Education

Abstract

Background: Hisba is an effort towards developing moral awareness which involves internal and external control. The self-Hisba component consists of musyaratah (promise of the heart), muraqabah (monitoring behaviours), muhasabah (evaluating the mind), mucaqabah (spiritual motivation), mujahadah (fighting desire) and mucatabah (soul reflection). Students who practice Hisba are able to identify oneself and one‟s ability at an optimum level through intellect potentials which include the emotional being, physical being, mentality, spiritual capacity, desire and soul towards realizing the Islamic spiritual education. Objective: This study intends to identify the practice self-Hisba practices to control the students from getting involve in social ills. Results: The study used quantitative research method through survey which involved 1785 secondary school students.From the analysis showed self-Hisba are able to instil in the students the ability to evaluate themselves, and improve their weaknesses so as to build their intellect potentials to be successful both in this world and the hereafter. Conclusion: The findings of the study showed that Hisba can be identified as an alternative effort to develop good moral values in the students towards the internalization of Islamic Studies. In relation to that, the findings in this Hisba study and the internalization of good moral values by the students have opened up possibilities towards self development and the practice of self-evaluation Hisba in the moral development of secondary school students.
