Abstract

Communication is an important process that enables humans to exchange information and socialize with one another. It is the most frequent process taking place in a classroom. For teachers to effectively deliver a message as well as to achieve the learning objectives, the communication process should be done continuously and effectively. The objective of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of communication through Problem Based Learning (PBL) for Islamic Education in one of the Higher Education Institutes in Brunei Darussalam. There are two groups of people involved in this research which are the experimental group and the controlled group. The experimental group consists of those undergoing the PBL process while the controlled group consists of those undergoing a normal learning process. Both groups have been interviewed to get their feedback regarding the learning process. The data collected from the interviews are analyzed thematically using Nvivo software. The result of the analysis shows that effective communication through PBL has given the students different learning experience compared to the normal learning session. However, there is no difference in terms of understanding as students from both groups can understand the topics that they have learned. This research has indirectly contributed to the effectiveness of Islamic Education in instilling positive values and attitudes as well as providing learning satisfaction to the students.
