Abstract

This paper investigates the student’s perception of social media technology on academic and social engagement. The objectives are to study the impact of social media technology on academic performance and to study the social media effect on student’s social engagement between peers and lecturers. The data had been collected by using a quantitative method. Furthermore, the finding for this research shows that the perceived impact of social media technology on academic performance and perceived impact on social engagement are higher. The recommendation of this study, students and lecturers need to be trained on how to use social media technology effectively on studies and enhancing ICT infrastructure will influence students and lecturers to use social media based on learning activities that may contribute to academic performance.
