Abstract

Rape has been emerged as a weapon war in the present time wars.It was conducted by most of the conflicting parties in the armed conflicts with various objectives such as to obtain information about their counterparts, or to the extreme level where it is used a weapon for genocide or a mean to create 'new generation' of certain ethnicity. Worryingly, the pattern of rape has been changing from as a reward to the war victors during ancient period to a systematic and organized tactic of war- in this recent time profoundly in the 20th and 21st centuries. In spite of being recognized as crime against humanity, rape is largely conducted in armed conflicts today and the perpetrators are left unpunished.Therefore, this paper will look into various issues relating to rape, namely the definition and the development of rape in war, effects of rape and the status of rape in international laws.Lastly, this paper will discuss what can be done to minimize this problem.
