Abstract

Although game development has a history of implementation in the instructional design; literature still lacks available comprehensive development methodologies specifically for mobile game for learning applications. One common characteristic is the separation of the instructional design from the development phases. This paper presents a comparative study of the current practice of methodologies for mobile game development. Most of these methodologies focus on the development of mobile game development for entertainment.A brief description of each of these methodologies is examined which cover the entire development life cycle for mobile game development. The strengths and weaknesses of each methodology are also discussed. In addition, a survey study was conducted in order to find out the preferred choice of the methodology by a group of novice mobile game developers. The result indicates that among five of the compared methodologies, Game Life Cycle scored highest.
