Abstract

This paper predicate of leadership discourse. It later expanded to the aspect of “national Resilience” in managing a country characterized by a pluralistic society in Singapore. It found from the experience of a former leader of Singapore Lee Kuan Yew (LKY). Mahathir in Tom Plate (2012, p110) sarcastically noted that "people do regard him as an intellectual, as something more than just an ordinary politician. He’s always invited to give his views on things and, to that extent, he is something bigger than Singapore”. LKY managed to move the pragmatic actions and the value of effective leadership style in order to achieve the planned mission and vision. The experience led for 60 years have brought a thriving community from one point to another. He guided his country Singapore when they disconnected from Malaysia which had supplied the raw materials to them.Among those to be discussed in this paper is the aspect of “national Resilience” that covers the basic positions of leadership, security policy, bilingual education policy, political system and democracy, the concept of “equal opportunity”, patriotism and development of Singapore society, the management of religious, economic and human capital and the Asia value. This paper also attempts to find aspects of Singapore’s multi-racial society. Generally, plural society will produce a variety of demands and struggle especially against the rights and supremacy. This sensitive issue is sent successfully managed by LKY and Singapore with its own style. At the end of this paper, it is hoped a new knowledge enrichment associated with “national resistance” and the experience of managing a society especially in the Southeast Asian country.
