Abstract

Community’s participation plays a significant role in determining the success of a development program.In the context of the entrepreneurship, previous studies have been able to sample the evidence of the scarcity of this participation.Factors like the difficulty of accepting change, the idiosyncrasies of the bureaucracy, financial allocation issues, the shortage of training and courses, political frictions, the lack of response and support from the rural people and the like, are seen to leave an impact in influencing this public participation.In relation to this, research has been done to identify the level of participation in the area of study, and analyse the influencing factors for the participation in the area as to be able to obtain the actual, detailed conditions regarding the issue being examined. This research was conducted in the selected village of Gerakan Daya Wawasan (GDW) in the district of Kubang Pasu, Kedah namely Kampung Natoi and Kampung Tradisi Paya Pahlawan. This study made use of the questionnaire and the checklist for the purpose of the data-collection.The study findings have shown that the level of participation of the rural residents in the entrepreneur fields is moderate.The factors identified to have influenced this level of participation include capital/financial factor also the training and courses of entrepreneurship. Ultimately, the findings also demonstrate that the factor of cronyism and the relationships of politicians also significantly affects the participation level of these rural residents.
