Abstract
Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) significantly contribute to the country, especially in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), employment and exports. However, with the challenging in external environment, SMEs must innovate in order to compete and survive in the business environment. The objective of this study is to identify the profile of SMEs and investigate the type of innovation that are predominant in the food and beverage manufacturing SMEs.Data were collected using questionnaires from a sample of 277 SMEs. The study found that the majority of Malaysian food and beverage manufacturing SMEs located in Selangor and the majority type of business is sole proprietorships.There are three types of innovation undertaken by SMEs such as product innovation, process innovation and marketing innovation.SMEs' get resources from their internal and external to undertake innovation in their companies.
