Abstract

Since the philosophy and techniques of New Public Management (NPM) have been implemented in Malaysia, the public sector has emerged from being just an engine of economic growth to become a facilitator to the private sector and the public service provider. In line with NPM's underlying principles, various contemporary management practices and philosophy were implemented in the Malaysian since. In fact, the implantation of private sector practices into the public sector practices was enhanced with the introduction of the performance measurement system, quality management, information technology and major reform in accounting practices.This paper entails descriptive analysis of the new practices of NPM, reform in Malaysia’s accounting sector and certain issues arose from implementation of the new principles.
