Abstract
Due to the advancement of optical communication, optical transmission systems have attracted significant attention due to its ability to provide bandwidth-distance product over Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) for rural area networks. However, light dispersion is considered as a primary impairment toward sufficient bandwidth-distance product. Therefore, researchers have proposed three solutions which are, upgrading the existing DWDM infrastructure of 10Gbit/s to 40Gbit/s or beyond, minimizing the channel spacing so that they can utilize more channels, and increasing the individual channel transmission bit rate. This paper combines those three approaches together by introducing 2DPSK modulation format and coherent detection scheme, through the deployment of 16 DWDM channels. 40Gbit/s was achieved over a distance of 100Km at a center wavelength 1550.12nm.
