Abstract

The objective of this study is to identify the level of poor household's happiness in rural and urban area based on gender in Kedah. This study involved 12 districts and 400 poor household heads. Poor household was identified by Poverty Line Income (PLI), which is RM840 for urban and RM790 for rural. This study analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) using logit regression analysis (logistic regression), based on seven dimensions and 26 indicators that have been set. For urban, the findings show that women are more happy than men. While for rural, the study showed men are happier than women. Indirectly, this study could provide a comprehensive picture to reduce poverty by gender in Kedah. Besides that, this study also not only focuses on the aspects of material, but also emphasis more on subjective aspect, such as happiness.
