Abstract

This study analyses students’ perception on the teaching method of the subject Ḥifẓ al-Qur’an at the Tahfiz Department, College of Islamic Studies, Johor (Marsah).Six respondents were selected, three (3) males and three (3) females; who was in the final semester.This number is sufficient for the qualitative data exploration. Selection of respondents at this stage is based on the grade achieved in the subject Ḥifẓ al- Qur’an; mumtāz grade achievement (excellent), jayyid (good) and maqbul (pass).To evaluate the methods of teaching in the subject of Ḥifẓ al-Qur’an, an interview was conducted.The questions that were asked was regarding knowledge, skills and personalities, activities, and practice of teaching Ḥifẓ al-Qur’an used by lecturers.The findings indicated that the lecturers uses their own method of teaching and emphasized on the technique of reading the Quran.In terms of the practice of teaching the subject of Ḥifẓ al-Qur’an, lecturers perform tasmī activities.In practice classess, students are instructed to murāja'aṯ, but as for female students, lecturers specialise in muraja'aṯ activities during ma'dhuraṯ.In a nutshell, some aspect required attention; for instance the aspect of the performance grades related to the female students.
