Abstract

The two main objectives of this study are: first, to investigate the relationship between job characteristics (task variety, task identity, autonomy, job feedback, and task significance) and OCB; and second, to identify which dimension of job characteristics that affect OCB most among academician and nonacademician staffs at one of the private higher learning education institution in Northern Peninsular Malaysia. Analysis of 71 of respondents using Pearson Correlations revealed that three of the five dimensions of job characteristics (autonomy, job feedback, and task significance) had significant positive effects on OCB. Task variety, on the other hand, were found to be significantly and negatively related to OCB. Only task identity had non-significant effects on OCB. Based on the findings, practical implications, limitations and suggestions for future research are also highlighted.
