Abstract

Be courteous reflects a clear heart that demonstrates polite behavior and the use of language that does not offend the listeners. If language politeness is not used, the society will give negative judgement towards the speaking party. Today it is found that there are a handful of young people who act rudely in communication. This situation is no exception among university students who are known as educated people. In this regard, this paper will examine the practice of this language politeness for this group of students based on the language used. The approach of the study is to apply the use of descriptive analysis method on the data obtained. Practice of language politeness will be seen based on the use of elements of euphemism by examining its relation to sociolinguistic aspect and its implications on language politeness. Euphemism not only gives a smoother picture over the language used but also provides a more positive view to the users of the language itself.
