Abstract

This paper discussed the extent to which corruption pose a challenge and destroy good Governance, reconstruction and rehabilitation in Nigeria in various dimensions. The existence of corruption challenges in Nigeria is highly affecting and undermining the northeastern social, economic and political development. Corruption has adverse consequences on investment, reconstruction, security, good governance and national development. Thus, damaging the institution on which all policies are made and implemented and making it frustrated to the good governance of the northeastern Nigeria. Therefore, this study examines the causal organism, symptoms and negative implications of corruption on good governance in northeastern Nigeria. The study is qualitative in nature; it makes use of secondary sources of data in discussing challenges of corruption to good governance, reconstruction and rehabilitation in northeastern Nigeria. Such as textbooks, journals, and newspaper. Among others, the study recommended that norms and moral values should be adopted among citizens of Northeast, the citizens should be oriented with more enlightenment programmes on repercussion of corruption. It further recommends that the anti-corruption act and institutions be reformed and rehabilitate in order to strengthen their responses in treating corrupt cases easily for socio-economic and political development of the country for sustainable of good governance in Northeastern and Nigeria in general. Provisions of basic amenities for the citizens are paramount in the fight against corruption.
