Abstract

This study aims to identify strategies for improving energy management efficiency in residential student accommodation, Yayasan Albukhari, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). Energy management is a proactive, systematic and orderly method of utilizing energy in a building or organization to meet the environmental and economic needs of the administration. However, before identifying strategic ones that can be implemented, there are several factors that need to be identified first. Therefore, this study focuses on identifying the causes and strategies of high power consumption solutions at Yayasan Al-Bukhary accommodation UUM. The design of this study is using a qualitative research method. Respondents consisted of Yayasan Al-Bukhary accommodation students and Yayasan Al-Bukhary accommodation management staff. The results show that many of the students' current practices in the accommodation such as careless behavior, use of prohibited electrical appliances, not turning off the lights and fans when leaving the room and leaving open electrical sockets influence high power consumption. In the meantime, there are other factors that influence the use of high-power electricity such as economic factors. As a result of this study, there have been several strategies that can be implemented to reduce electricity consumption at the Yayasan Al-Bukhary accommodation such as campaigning, promoting electricity saving practices, attaching stickers, using electronic key technology, using a lamp and fan economic types, using electricity control applications. , set up a monitoring organization and regularly conduct spot check. As a result, this study raises awareness among students in accommodation to avoid current practices that result in electricity waste or high electricity consumption and increase awareness among management and occupants to manage energy efficiency more efficiently and effectively.
