Abstract

This research is about assignment problem; which revolves around the multiple challenges faced by the administration in assigning students their focus disciplines. The objective of this research is to find the optimum solution in assigning students their focus discipline course using a mathematical model. This is also to validate whether students get the right choice of the focus discipline course that they have chosen. Hence, in this research, a mathematical model is presented to help the administrators with the assignment process. The goal of the model is to ensure equality among students, while at the same time trying to guarantee the STML students’ wishes for their focus disciplines to take every semester is fulfilled. By using a mathematical programming called AMPL (A Mathematical Programming Language) software, it can solve and produce accurate result in the assignment problem. As a result, the administrator can easily assign the students the focus discipline of their choice, whether the first, second, third choice or so on.
