Abstract

This paper intends to investigate the critical success factors of 5S implementation and also to study the awareness of STML students towards 5S implementation at Universiti Utara Malaysia. A web-based survey questionnaire forming a total of 13-item statements was developed. The questionnaire was then distributed to 100 STML students, who are representatives of the population, via the Google Form distribution service. Data collection ended in two weeks once the sample volume of usable questionnaires reached 104, which exceeded the maximum response rate. The results of factor analysis indicate that the students are possibly aware about the six variables under two factors to implement Five S. Those factors are “Culture” and “Motivation and Learning”. It also frames questions about the possible value where STML management with the students involved can make 5S system efficient and effective. Plus, in the future, various non -value added activities in the system shall be identified for necessary corrective actions.
