Abstract
This contribution succeeds in emphasing the linkages between Malay culture and technology with the tropical forest. This connection is both material and spiritual because traditional Malay society made use of the forest as a source of building and handicraft materials as well as a source of inspiration, for its art and literature. However, in the modern era this linkage is more and more tenuous due to urbanisation and industrialisation. The authors present various suggestions towards reorganising national Malaysian culture based on the concept of forest.
