Abstract

This paper examines the relationship between human resource management (HRM) practices which are job security, compensation, and supervisory support with propensity to quit among the academics of private higher education institutions in Bangladesh. The aim is at understanding the influence of the abovementioned HR practices towards the faculty intentions to quit decision among the private universities.Based on data from 160 academic members of private higher education institutions in Bangladesh participated in this survey, the paper concludes that the universities human resource practices related to compensation and supervisory support have statistically significant impact to the faculty intention to quit in any condition.Whereas, for job security, its significant relationship to intention to quit depends on control variables considered. Therefore, this paper recommends that private university management especially in Bangladesh should pay more attention to these two practices of human resource management to retain as well as to attract potential academics in the future. At the end, this paper highlights some limitations and suggestions for future research.
