Abstract

For the 10th Malaysia Plan (RMK 10), the government is committed to increase creativity efforts through entrepreneurship stimulation, absorb innovation elements into school curriculum, focus on R&D and increase the availability of risk capital. R&D is now a key element for a firm’s survival in the global competition arena. When R&D activity is successful, it gives impact to the overall firm performance, where quality of product increases, cost per product is reduced, product delivery improved and product has its own flexibility. Implementation of intellectual property rights is often left behind. In this study, IPR will be observed as a moderating variable so that it helps to stimulate R&D toward operation performance.Strengthening element of intellectual property rights is a must due to its huge benefits. Loopholes on IPR have a significant impact on the overall performance of the firm and create new approach on how we look at it. Discoveries on the impact to economic growth, product lifecycle, and intellectual property rights issues will also be explored further.
