Abstract

This paper aims to discuss the motives of the technology usage in virtual teams in Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC) status companies.In addition, the types of communication technology used by virtual teams are also discussed in this paper.The study uses qualitative method via focus group interviews.In-depth interviews with semi-structured and open-ended questions have also being used in this study.Six staffs were involved in the interviews at different positions in virtual team (two team leaders, and four team members).The interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed according to the thematic analysis.The results indicated the types of communication technology that has been used by team members such as Communicator, Microsoft Net Meeting, Instant Messaging and Groove technology.It is also concluded that globalization factor, work virtually, matter of work, to get information, and interact with team members of different locations are the motives behind the use of this technology.
