Abstract
This paper is a case study report of an attempt at Universiti Utara Malaysia(UUM), where a web-based e-Learning Readiness Assessment is developed as a tool that helps the e-Learning management authority to gauge the readiness of university staff in embracing the e-Learning institution. The aim of such readiness assessment is to reduce guesswork by providing real feedback and accordingly -guide the decision makers at the UUM University Teaching and Learning Centre (UTLC) in the management of ICT resources for e-learning provision and support. As a result, a prototype called "e-Learning Readiness Survey and Index System (eLRSIS)" was produced following the approach of Database Application Life Cycle, providing real-time information on eight key factors of e-Learning readiness. A small sampling using the eLRSIS prototype had collected data from the staff in the Faculty of Economics (FE) and the Faculty of Information Technology (FTM). Preliminary results showed that overall the responded academic staff of FE and FTM have fared weakly in terms of Psychological,Financial and Equipment readiness in e-Learning, while scoring averagely in Sociological, Human resource, Environmental, Technology and Content readiness in e-Learning.
