Abstract

The current study focuses on the behavioural ground to understand students’ subjective financial well-being. It posits the link of financial information, financial literacy, and financial behaviour in investigating how students use financial literacy to make financial decisions - financial behaviour that contributed to their subjective financial well-being. A sample of 354 university students was selected using the random sampling method, and 305 responses were useful. This study employed the PLS-SEM method to test the estimated model and found that (1) financial literacy positively related to financial behaviour; and (2) financial behaviour positively related to subjective financial well-being. Results indicated that financial behaviour mediates partially between the relationship of financial literacy and subjective financial well-being. This study advances the extant literature in explaining the link between financial literacy, financial behaviour, and subjective financial well-being. The findings provided insights for the researchers to clarify the financial literacy concept and differentiates financial literacy from financial behaviour. Moreover, the findings frame a holistic picture explaining the effects between financial literacy, financial decision behaviour, and to what extent this behaviour contributes to subjective financial well-being.
