Abstract

This study investigates the use of gamification in teaching and learning to increase student engagement. For this goal, a learning exercise was created that requires students to work together to create a game about road safety in an aerotropolis. As a result, the students were pushed to apply what they had learnt in class to a practical game. A questionnaire, peer observation, and reflection were used to assess student participation. The data demonstrate that students are usually happy with the gamification approach to learning and agree that their engagement with peers is increased throughout the project completion. According to the study, gamification is a fun and effective way to engage students in learning. The implications for academics are examined further.
