Abstract

Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK) has redistributed the fund from zakat on income among Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) staffs to provide assistance to the asnaf at Universiti Utara Malaysia consisting of students, staffs, community outside uum and management of asnaf affairs. In 2018 and 2019, UUM zakat management decided to channel the zakat fund to students through e-wallet application (kiplePay). The purpose of this article is to analyze from the Shariah point of view regarding the assistance (zakat) provided through the A Z J A F ( e - I S S N : 2 7 1 6 - 6 6 4 3 ) V o l . 1 N o . 1 ( 2 0 2 0 ) Page 103 application of kiplePay. The study was conducted qualitatively i.e. face-to-face interviews and document references. The results show that the implementation of zakat assistance to students in UUM through e-wallet application (kiplePay) is in line with Islamic law. It is found to be very good and can control student spending so that it is not used for improper purposes. The study also found that it is suitable to use this method in other educational institutions with students who are IT literate and have appropriate IT technology in campus
