In preparing skilled future accounting professionals and to meet the ever-evolving demands of the growing accounting profession and its services, transformation of accounting pedagogy from a traditional textbook-oriented and teacher-centred method to a new and interactive teaching methodology need to be done. Aligned with the advancement of technology, students’ interest and skills on accounting can be enhanced through digital accounting simulator applications. Therefore, to realize this need, this research aims to design the content of an interactive accounting application for learning specifically for the secondary school accounting students in Malaysia. The design of the content of the apps was developed based on ADDIE Learning Simulator Model that consists of five phases namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation phases to ensure it achieves an effective accounting teaching and learning outcome. Qualitative data was collected from accounting students in a selected secondary school in Kedah by applying purposive sampling technique to acquire their perception on the design of the accounting modules before it is converted into an apps. The data was then analysed using content and thematic analysis. The results show that at the secondary school level, the application of digital tools in teaching and learning accounting subject is very limited. Traditional way of teacher centred teaching approach is more popular. When the students were exposed with a more interactive way of learning accounting using digital tools, interviews revealed that they feel more engaged and focused to the teaching and learning session which is expected to improve their understanding of the subject. Practically, this study contributes to accounting pedagogy by designing a smart digital accounting education apps that assists to boost student enthusiasm in learning accounting, improve their grasp of the subject matter, and increase their analytical and critical thinking skills. As a result, interest, knowledge and good perception of the accounting profession should be instilled to students to prepare them as the future accountants. Besides, this study helps to motivate accounting instructors to be more creative and interactive in their teaching approach
