Abstract
Successful product design and development project rely heavily upon both internal and external factors aroused during the development stages. Hence, both internal and external factors should be managed for the entire stages with scientific or logical ways. Although both internal and external factors are the risks affecting to new product development project performances, the internal factors can be controllable and the external factors are very difficult to be controlled. Manufacturing flexibility has been receiving attentions over the past decades as firm’s flexibility-related functional capabilities are competencies and resources of the firm. This paper provides some insight into the definitions of manufacturing flexibility and its importance and impact of integrating flexibility in Malaysia manufacturing industries context that lead to successful new product performance
