Abstract

The global financial crisis had dramatic impact on auto manufacturing worldwide; however, these were felt uniquely severely in North America, largely because of its asymmetric position within the geography of automotive globalization. To cope with the financial volatilities, Beta industries, a metal stamping division of Magana International, turned to ‘process innovation’ for improving effectiveness of their stamping operations; process innovation pertains to finding better or more efficient ways of producing existing products, or delivering existing services. This paper construes the process of ‘impelling and managing innovation’ using ‘Suggestion System’ at Beta plant during the 2007-2009 financial crises and entails the process of reducing progressive die change over time using suggestion system as an effective tool. The paper evinces the efficacy of suggestion systems in managing ideas; having the capability of being all inclusive by being able to focus on capturing ideas from all workers. The paper concludes that idea management systems don't replace traditional departments and processes involved in new services, products, or strategies. They serve as an adjunct to them and provide a framework that can help organizations turn innovation into an enterprise-wide discipline-and a sustainable process that drives growth in good times and bad
