Abstract

A review was undertaken to explore the food waste disposal trends in the last five years. Four databases were used to search for articles related to food waste. Three hundred twenty-four (324) articles were reviewed prior to the selection of 60 papers for final review. The results showed that apart from the economic loss caused by food waste, its environmental and social impacts also cause preventable damage and public debate. Further analyses show some trend in food waste disposal. These food waste disposal trends can be categories by three categories: 1) Donation 2) Price Reduction 3) Food Waste Recycling Program. These approaches to food waste management have been introduced effectively in the countries the researcher studied. Furthermore, the food waste disposal approach could be a guideline for the supermarket and other related organisation to follow. However, the limitation of this study should be taken into account. This study only utilised four journal databases accessible to the researchers with specific keywords that related to this research. Therefore, future studies may use other journal database and keywords. Future studies also could utilise the quantitative approach with a survey or qualitative method with an interview to gain more insight into this issue
