Abstract

This study discusses the secession movement by Perlis from Kedah beginning in the 19th & 20th centuries. The term in this study uses "secession" to refer to the action of Perlis who wanted to separate itself from the central power to gain self-governing authority. The objective to be achieved in this research is to study the separation movement of Perlis from Kedah and the impact on thepoliticalissues. This research uses historical methods with quantitative and qualitative approaches guided by primary and secondary sources. The findings of this research show that the secession agenda by Perlis involving Siam and British have influencedits political and administrative system. Through the acceptance of the Financial Adviser in Perlis, the organization of the secessionmovement in the state has become stronger compared to the other places. However, in terms of administration, it is seen that Perlis state governance still involves Kedah, especially concerning the affairs of certain government departments
