Abstract

Deviant teachings are a significant phenomenon in the social and religious context of Malaysia, referring to deviations from the true teachings of Islam as recognized by the majority of Muslims in the country. This study aims to examine the historical factors contributing to the emergence and solutions suggested of deviant teachings in Malaysia. This study applies qualitative research methodology which included thematic analysis and content analysis approach. This study explores three deviant teachings which are Darul al-Arqam, Ayah Pin and Hizbullah that have existed in Malaysia from the country's formation to the present day. Through a comprehensive literature review and analysis of key cases, this study outlines the historical background of deviant teachings and the factors influencing their emergence and also solutions suggested. Additionally, this study assesses the responses of society and authorities to this phenomenon and its impact on the Muslim community in Malaysia. The findings of this study are significant in understanding the development patterns of deviant teachings in Malaysia and provide recommendations for preventive measures to ensure such occurrences do not recur in the future
